The Bible – a book for today, a book for everyone, everywhere

The Bible is the most translated and published and read book in human history. It is the book of faith for the 2,100 million Christians round the world, who believe it is God’s message of truth and love for all people.

The Bible Society, Wycliffe Bible Translators and many other organisations are committed to ensuring that everyone has the opportunity to read or hear the Bible in a language they can understand. Find out more on www.biblesociety.org.uk  or see their magazine at Church. If you need a Bible in a language other than English contact “No frontiers” on 01323 437723 or see www.nofrontiers.org Everyday hours of radio and TV programmes are transmitted, covering every part of the globe, passing on the good news of Jesus Christ as recorded in the Bible. UCB, Premier Radio, Hope FM, FEBA, Transworld Radio and others are involved.

USPG (the United Society for the Propagation of the Gospel), who sponsor Rev Anthony and Mollie Gregory in Argentina, and many others round the world, have been spreading the Bible’s message for 300 years. To know more about their work see www.uspg.org.uk or see their magazine “Transmission” in church.

The message is going out.  How can we play our part?

Daily Bible Reading Notes

These bi-monthly or quarterly booklets are designed to help you to read and understand the Bible daily. Each day they give a short passage for you to read, and in the booklet the author gives an interpretation and guide to the meaning of the passage. A number of Christian organisations produce these notes. For example:

  • The Scripture Union produce a range of notes for different age groups costing from about £2-25 depending on your choice of notes. ‘Daily Bread’ is their most popular, with ‘Encounter with God’ designed for those seeking a deeper understanding about what God is saying to you and to his world today, and ‘Submerge’ written with young teenagers in mind.  In St Clement’s Church Sandra Ferns is the Scripture Union Secretary and she will, each quarter, deliver your chosen notes to you and collect the money. If you feel you would like to receive them regularly, please let Sandra Ferns know and she will order them for you.
  • The Bible Reading Fellowship provide a range of different daily Bible reading notes: ‘New Daylight’ for those looking for a devotional approach to reading and understanding the Bible; ‘Guidelines’ for people wanting more serious and challenging study; and ‘Day by Day with God’ written by women with women in mind. – UCB –produce free notes for adults and teenagers: The Word For Today’- “This devotional is a kick start for cold mornings, when you don't feel like reading your Bible or find it a bit dry”; and ‘The Word 4U 2Day’ a contemporary version of The Word for Today written particularly with younger people in mind. For more details please contact the church office. During June there will be a display of Bible Reading Notes in the Church for you to look at and decide which are most suitable for you. These notes, and others, are also available from Christian bookshops such as Keith Jones Bookshop in Bournemouth.
