September News

Following our service in July for the Wave of Prayer, I thought you may be interested in some information from the Deanery about some of our link dioceses.

Nakuru Diocese, Kenya As a result of the ethnic violence which erupted after the 2008 elections, MU members have been distributing funds to internally displaced people in 13 camps. They face the challenges of: large numbers of displaced people; drought; inflation; cancer-related sicknesses; illiteracy.

Kigeme Diocese, Rwanda The MU is involved in: encouraging sufferers from HIV/Aids; training women in income-generating skills such as tailoring; helping families to farm more effectively; working with Compassion caring for orphaned and needy children; Sunday School work; literacy project with young women.

Dioceses of Bendigo and Gippsland, Australia These areas are still recovering from the effects of the severe forest fires in 2009. Many were bereaved, with 200 people killed in the fires. In 2010 there has been drought in the north of the Diocese

Sudan Praise God for the gift of almost one million pounds from Comic Relief for literacy projects in Sudan over five years.

Nzara - Bishop Samuel Peni visited us in Wareham in 2005. His wife Sentina is MU President. The Lord’s Resistance Army attacked a local village on 20th July 2010 causing death and havoc.

Wau - A group from Poole Hospital visited in March this year and were dismayed at the inadequate provision of maternity care. Maternal mortality in some areas is as high as 1 in 10.  The Poole group is seeking to bring about improvements and to help with training staff. The Lord’s Resistance Army is also causing huge problems here.

Please continue to remember the work of the Mothers’ Union in your prayers.

We meet again on Tuesday 7th September at 2.30pm in the church hall for our Branch Meeting.

Never been to Mothers’ Union?  Ladies and gentlemen are all welcome to attend. Why not come and join us soon at one of our branch meetings? For more information contact Chris Dicker via the church office.
